The Wingman is a positive media campaign that raises the personal implications of anti-social behaviour prevelant in our community.
The Wingman team is excited to announce that our partnership with the AFL Coaches Association will continue for the 2013 football season.
The Department of Justice and AFL Coaches Association have been in partnership since 2009, successfully working together to engage with football players at a grassroots level.
Our focus is to address the issue of alcohol-related violence and increase awareness of the personal implications of antisocial behaviour.
Last year’s partnership with the association saw the introduction of the Wingman Off-Field Champion Awards program. The program recognised grassroots football players who demonstrated leadership behaviour off the field. This behaviour was acknowledged at a club, league and state level.
John Parks from Park Orchards Football Club was the winner of the 2012 inaugural State Wingman Off-Field Champion award. John displayed true Wingman qualities – teamwork, leadership and looking out for his teammates.
The focus for 2013 is to build on the success of last year’s awards program and focusing on heavily engaging with metropolitan and regional football leagues.
Our community approach, and support from the association has been key in assisting us in addressing the issue of alcohol-related violence.
