Last week, I had the privilege to be in the company of Randi Zuckerberg, ex. Director of Marketing at Facebook and sister of the famous Mark.
During a Q & A for the Entrepreneurs Organisation (EO) in conjunction with Melbourne Business School (MBS), she shared numerous stories about her past experiences and the direction she has taken in her own company Zuckerberg Media since departing Facebook.
Randi, with her charming and quite down to earth persona summed up her role at Facebook in charge of marketing, and how her team led the company’s U.S. Federal election and international politics strategy and launched the live streaming industry with her media partnerships around the U.S Presidential Inauguration.
Zuckerberg Media has produced shows and digital content for BeachMint, The Clinton Global Initiative, Cirque du Soleil, the United Nations, Conde´Nast, Bravo and is working on Celebrity Apprentice for Women among one of their numerous upcoming projects.
Her tips from the session were –
- Position Yourself
“When I started calling myself executive producer, all doors opened when previously I couldn’t get it.”
My take home: Although titles are simply that, titles nevertheless play an important part in positioning your authority.
- Personal Branding Online
“You can’t separated professional from personal on social media. Be careful!”
My take home: Your personal brand is like toothpaste in a tube, once out from the tube it is very hard to put back in. Be smart with it!
- Don’t take anything for granted
“A company that can become a billion dollar business in 18 months can also be one that loses it all in 18 months.”
My take home: Don’t be cocky, build sustainability in all you do.
Till next time, venture relentlessly……..
