I nearly fell off my chair having breakfast the other day when I read in the media “that parents are ignoring bad table manners, preferring children eat their dinner instead of arguing about where or how it is eaten”.
Although to some it may be regarded as a better option in a difficult environment to avoid arguments, I would say that the main cause of this scenario is the lack of family leadership on the part of the parents.
Parents are responsible for setting up the etiquette guidelines and boundaries of what is and what is not accepted in the family, not children.
If we give away our power as adults we must then also take responsibility for the mess we create. As a parent I appreciate both sides of the discussion, but experience tells me which choice is the right one.
